YOUR DONATIONS HELP OKLAHOMANS WITH DISABILITIES

Thanks to the latest digital technology in the form of the Apple iPad tablet
computer, children who are non-verbal are learning to ‘speak’ for the first
time and communicate with family, friends, and teachers.

The iPad’s unique size and portability makes it a
good fit for children with disabilites. Comprehensive language software and
visual and audio applications, or “apps,” are available.

ELI

To 18 year old Eli, his new iPad is more than just a handy little piece of technology; it’s added a new dimension to his life and his ability to communicate effectively. Eli, who is a student at a local High School, has motor and speech problems due to cerebral palsy. His mode of communicating is verbal, but people outside his family and personal circle may not be able to understand him.

Today through, his iPad –made possible by the fundraising efforts of the Oklahoma Circle K Stores – accompanies him just about everywhere.

“He takes it to McDonald’s and places his order using the Proloquo2go language application” says his mother. “And the greeters at Walmart know Eli and that the iPad is his when he brings it to the store”.

After several years of wearing a brace to strengthen his calf muscles, he has had surgery on his legs and feet and now walks unaided, with much improved coordination. Eli could be said to be “on the move” in more ways than one. His mother thanks Circle K and Ability Connection Oklahoma for helping to make this possible.
